What is Fatty Liver?

a greater accumulation of fat in the liver. Obesity and type 2 diabetes are major risk factors, while excessive alcohol use is also linked to it. Usually, it has no symptoms. Symptoms include exhaustion, loss of weight, and stomach pain as they manifest.

The goal of treatment is to lower risk factors including obesity by following an exercise and nutrition regimen. Although it is usually not harmful, in a small percentage of cases, it can lead to cirrhosis, or liver failure.

What are the causes of Fatty Liver?

Overindulgence in fat occurs when the liver fails to properly metabolize and breakdown fats. Individuals who suffer from excessive triglycerides, diabetes, or obesity are more likely to develop fatty liver. Fatty liver can also result from alcohol misuse, fast weight loss, and malnourishment.
